Deputy Director: Animal Processing (12-Month Contract)

Position Overview

Minimum Requirements
- A Grade 12 certificate and a 4-year Degree or BSc (NQF level 8) in Agricultural Science, Agro-processing, or Food Technology.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years at an Assistant Director level within the Agricultural sector.
- A valid driver’s license.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:
- Strategy & Growth: Manage the Gauteng Agro-processing Strategy, specifically focusing on expanding the fresh and processed meat industries.
- Project Coordination: Lead projects that help meat processing businesses (poultry, pork, and red meat) improve their planning, technology, and safety operations.
- Market Research: Monitor international industry trends and share findings with local businesses to keep them competitive.
- Regulatory Compliance: Work with Veterinary Services and National Departments to manage food business codes, abattoir standards, and export labeling.
- Policy Development: Review and update product standards, legislation, and standard operating procedures to ensure they meet current requirements.
- Team Management: Supervise staff performance and oversee the professional development of employees within the sub-directorate.
