Role Overview
The Gauteng Provincial Government is seeking a qualified Deputy Director to join the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. This role focuses on promoting food safety and compliance within the agro-processing sector, ensuring that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) meet both national and international standards.
Requirements
- Grade 12 certificate plus a 4-year Degree or BSc (NQF level 8) in Agriculture, Agricultural Science, Agro-processing, or Food Science.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in the agricultural sector.
- At least 3 years of experience must be at an Assistant Director level.
- A valid driver’s license is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy Implementation: Support the Gauteng Agro-processing Strategy by helping SMEs comply with food safety regulations.
- Trend Analysis: Monitor international food safety trends and share this information with local industries to keep them competitive.
- Data Management: Maintain databases related to food safety standards, including HACCP certifications and Maximum Residue Limits (MRL).
- Policy Development: Create guidelines and policies regarding food safety legislation and ensure they are followed across the province.
- Quality Control: Collaborate with stakeholders during audits to ensure the provincial regulatory system meets required standards.
- Awareness & Education: Lead food safety awareness campaigns and manage the professional development of staff within the directorate.
