The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) works to transform the economy, promote investment and trade, and strengthen economic development in South Africa. We are looking for a dedicated professional to join our team as a Deputy Director for Risk and Compliance.
Role Overview
In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing ICT governance, managing IT risks, and ensuring the department complies with all legal and regulatory standards. You will also manage disaster recovery planning and oversee staff within the sub-directorate.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 7) in Computer Science, Informatics, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of management experience in the ICT industry, within either the public or private sector.
- Proven experience in creating and implementing IT governance frameworks and policies.
- Expertise in ICT disaster recovery planning and service continuity testing.
- Experience managing internal and external ICT audits and maintaining audit records.
- Knowledge of ICT change management, including impact assessments and emergency change procedures.
- Strong skills in conducting IT risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies.
Key Responsibilities
ICT Governance: You will develop and review IT policies and procedures. You will also monitor the performance of committees such as the ICT Steering Committee and the Change Control Board.
Service Continuity: You will create and maintain the ICT Service Continuity Management Plan. This includes coordinating disaster recovery testing, identifying gaps, and providing staff training.
Compliance and Audits: You will ensure the department meets all legal and industry requirements. This involves preparing for audits, maintaining audit registers, and ensuring any findings are corrected promptly.
Change and Risk Management: You will manage system changes to ensure they align with security and compliance rules. You will also maintain the IT risk register, monitor emerging threats, and implement strategies to reduce risks.
Reporting and Management: You will prepare monthly and annual reports regarding IT risks, audits, and disaster recovery. Additionally, you will manage the unit’s budget, assets, and staff performance.
