Job Overview
We are seeking a Deputy Director for our Vetting unit. The successful candidate will lead the team responsible for security vetting investigations, ensuring that all personnel and service providers meet the necessary security standards required by national legislation.
Requirements
- Education: A degree (NQF level 7) in Social Science or a related field.
- Certification: Completion of the mandatory Security Vetting Course provided by the State Security Agency (SSA) or Defence Intelligence.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in a management role focused on vetting investigations within the public or private sector.
Key Responsibilities
Vetting Operations and Compliance
- Lead and manage field investigations for security vetting.
- Ensure all processes follow national security laws and policies.
- Maintain security vetting capacity according to the National Vetting Legislation Framework.
- Work closely with the State Security Agency (SSA) to coordinate security practices.
Policy and Standards
- Create and update departmental vetting policies and guidelines.
- Oversee the screening process for companies and service providers during procurement.
- Prioritize and monitor the progress of all vetting files within the department.
Reporting and Advice
- Provide regular reports to management and the SSA regarding vetting outcomes.
- Advise management on whether candidates are suitable for employment based on security checks.
- Identify and manage high-risk security screenings.
Team and Resource Management
- Manage the sub-directorate’s staff, including training and performance reviews.
- Oversee the unit’s budget, travel expenses, and assets.
- Conduct research to stay updated on the latest security and vetting trends.
- Ensure quality control and efficient workflow for all vetting officers.
