Deputy Director: Waste Management
The City of Tshwane is a Category A Grade 6 urban municipality. We are looking for a dedicated and experienced professional to join our team as the Deputy Director of Waste Management. This is a full-time position based in Gauteng, focused on ensuring clean and efficient environmental services for our community.

Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must have:
- A three-year degree or national diploma in Environmental Management, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- A minimum of eight years of professional experience in waste management.
- Previous experience in a managerial role (this will be an advantage).
- A valid Code B driver’s license.
- Strong computer literacy.
- The ability to pass a criminal record check and provide fingerprints.
Primary Responsibilities
As the Deputy Director, you will be responsible for the following:
- Service Implementation: Oversee waste management services, including household collections, street cleaning, bulk waste services, and recycling programs.
- Planning and Strategy: Develop waste management plans and route schedules for refuse collection and illegal dumping removal to meet the city’s growing needs.
- Resource Management: Manage departmental staff, vehicles, assets, and tools.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work with partners and the community to resolve service delivery challenges.
- Risk and Compliance: Create internal control systems to follow legislation and manage risks within the department.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and report on service delivery targets to ensure the department meets its goals.
- Financial Control: Manage the budget and spending in accordance with the Municipal Finance Management Act.
- Staff Development: Ensure employees receive proper training and that workplace grievances are addressed fairly.
- Safety and Legal: Ensure the section follows all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and manages legal or labor-related issues.
