Desktop Analyst – Transnet

Transnet is a vital part of South Africa’s freight logistics chain, managing the country’s major transport infrastructure. We are looking for a skilled Desktop Analyst to join our team in Port Elizabeth. In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for technical support, ensuring our employees have the IT tools they need to keep the economy moving.

Position Purpose

As a Desktop Analyst, you will provide essential ICT support to end-users. Your goal is to resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently while maintaining high standards of service. You will handle everything from hardware troubleshooting to user training and software configuration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the single point of contact for all desktop and IT equipment support.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues for staff.
  • Install and configure new IT equipment and software applications.
  • Provide hands-on training to help users get the most out of their IT tools.
  • Collaborate with Group ICT and third-party service providers to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Provide first-line support for core business applications and assist users with access and navigation.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you should meet one of the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 (NQF 4) plus a Certificate in IT Support (NQF Level 5) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in desktop support.
  • OR Grade 12 (NQF 4) with a minimum of 8 years of experience in a desktop support environment.

Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Expertise in hardware and software maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of network environments and server hosting.
  • Experience with backup systems and server support.
  • Understanding of IT procedures, policies, and corporate governance.
  • Ability to work within Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Additional Requirements

  • Certifications: Microsoft A+ or N+ certificates are highly advantageous.
  • License: A valid Code B driver’s license is required.
  • Travel: You must be willing to travel when necessary to support different sites.
