Job Title: Digital Fraud Investigator

Location: Pretoria, Gauteng

Job Purpose

In this role, you will investigate fraud involving compromised taxpayer accounts. Because this fraud happens in a digital environment, you will work with large datasets. Your goal is to use data analysis skills to extract, preserve, and report on information from various SARS platforms. Your findings must be accurate and detailed enough to stand up in a court of law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigation: Assess digital fraud allegations and determine which data needs to be extracted for investigation.
  • Data Analysis: Process and analyze evidence files to ensure cases are ready for legal proceedings.
  • Reporting: Compile detailed reports on investigation findings and provide expert testimony in formal or criminal proceedings when needed.
  • Research: Stay updated on the latest digital fraud trends and methods to improve investigative techniques.
  • Collaboration: Work with internal teams and stakeholders to gather information and optimize risk management.
  • Process Improvement: Identify ways to improve operational procedures and ensure all work follows official policies and legislation.
  • Stakeholder Management: Liaise with witnesses and informers to gather evidence regarding tax evasion.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Option 1: A National Diploma or Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) in Data Analysis, Forensics, or Investigations, plus 5 to 7 years of experience in fraud or tax investigations.
  • Option 2: A Senior Certificate (Matric / NQF 4) plus 10 years of related experience in data analysis, fraud, or tax investigations.

Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Strong data analysis skills and the ability to handle digital evidence.
  • Knowledge of the “chain of custody” to ensure evidence remains valid for court.
  • Experience in interviewing, interrogation, and investigative reporting.
  • Analytical thinking and high attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and conceptual thinking.
  • Commitment to honesty, integrity, and transparency.
