About the Department
The Department of Public Works is dedicated to providing world-class service and improving the lives of all citizens. We are seeking a highly motivated professional to lead and manage the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) to help achieve our strategic goals.
Requirements
- Education: A minimum NQF Level 7 qualification (as recognized by SAQA) in Social Sciences, Public Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in middle or senior management. This experience should be specifically within the EPWP or large-scale public employment and infrastructure-led development programs.
- Leadership: A proven track record of managing high-performing teams and delivering strategic business outcomes.
- Flexibility: The ability to adapt work schedules to meet political cycles, emergency interventions, and urgent organizational demands.
- Compliance: Possession of a valid, unencumbered driver’s license and the ability to maintain a formal security clearance.
Knowledge and Skills
Professional Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of the EPWP framework (political, social, environmental, and economic context).
- Familiarity with labor-intensive technologies and the engineering/construction industry.
- Knowledge of government operations and the SAQA/NQF framework.
Key Skills:
- Strategic and financial management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Proficiency in local indigenous languages.
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and diplomacy skills.
- Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in computer applications and numeracy.
