Overstrand Municipality is a local government body in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Located along the beautiful Atlantic coast between Cape Town and Cape Agulhas, the municipality serves the key towns of Hermanus, Gansbaai, and Kleinmond.

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Director of Planning and Development to join our senior management team. The successful candidate will oversee strategic planning, town development, and regional growth within the municipality.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: A Post-Graduate Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Sciences, Architecture, Town and Regional Planning, or Development Studies.
- Experience: At least 7 years of experience in middle and senior management, with a minimum of 2 years specifically at the senior management level.
- Expertise: Proven success in Professional Developmental and Town/Regional Planning.
- Compliance: Must meet the Minimum Competency (MMC) regulations for Senior Managers as required by government legislation and notices.
- Professionalism: Registration as a Professional Planner (in accordance with the Planning Professions Act) is considered a strong advantage.
Key Knowledge and Skills
- Deep understanding of relevant government policies and legislation.
- Strong knowledge of institutional governance and performance management systems.
- Extensive experience working within a public office environment.
- A strategic mindset with high-level skills in operational planning, decision-making, and leadership.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to speak at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
- A clear understanding of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and its importance to service delivery.
