About the Role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is building a talent pool of Casual Cashiers for our Linton Corner stores. This role supports customer service at the point of sale and ensures a world‑class shopping experience. You will record customer transactions accurately, manage cash flow, and uphold our high standards of service and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures.
- Establish a professional relationship with customers.
- Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management.
- Maintain the required customer turnover hourly rate.
- Stay informed about current sales and promotions.
- Ensure colleagues and customers are not exposed to any risk.
- Apply Dis-Chem’s 5‑star communication principles.
- Manage cash flow and keep all money safely inside the till.
- Approve and sign off all line voids and price changes.
- Exchange merchandise and accept returned goods when authorised.
- Process all payments (cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, etc.).
- Process loyalty cards, including those of our accelerator partners (Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, eBucks).
- Place cash in the drop safe according to SOPs.
- Keep your code and password secure and change them regularly.
- Scan and pay for all outgoing stock/items/scripts.
- Handle daily takings confidentially and discuss only with management.
- Recognise and report suspicious behaviour to management.
- Answer queries regarding store merchandise.
- Follow Dis-Chem’s security policies and procedures.
Essential Qualifications
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Minimum 6 months of cashier/till operations experience.
- Computer literate – MS Office.
- Strong numerical skills.
- Strong command of the English language.
- Basic customer service skills.
- Willing and able to work retail hours.

- In‑depth knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers.
- Knowledge of processing sales, refunds, and payments.
- Strong command of English (written and oral).

- Basic report analysis.

Advantageous
- Knowledge of a third language.
Special Conditions of Employment
