About the Western Cape Education Department (WCED)
The WCED is responsible for managing early childhood development, primary, and secondary education within the Western Cape province. Our main goals are to improve literacy and mathematics skills, raise matriculation results, and ensure all communities have access to high-quality education.
Role Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Employee Relations Officer to join our Human Resources team. This role is essential for maintaining a positive working environment by managing labour relations, handling misconduct cases, and resolving grievances within the department.
Requirements
- Education: A 3-year post-matric qualification (Degree or National Diploma). Preference will be given to candidates who studied Employee Relations or Labour Law.
- Experience: At least 2 years of administrative experience in a people management or labour relations environment.
- License: A valid driver’s license is required.
Key Knowledge Areas
The successful candidate should have a strong understanding of:
- Human Resources and Employee Relations practices.
- Public Service legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Investigative processes related to misconduct, disputes, and grievances.
- Representing an employer in disciplinary hearings and bargaining structures.
- The specific bargaining structures within the South African Education and Public Sectors.
Required Skills
- Communication: Strong written and verbal skills in two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
- Analytical: Ability to think critically, solve problems, and interpret complex regulations.
- Technical: Proficient in computer use, data capturing, and professional report writing.
- Interpersonal: Excellent planning, organizational, and people skills.
