About the Role
Hatch is looking for a motivated and detail‑oriented Environmental Graduate to join our Environment and Sustainability team. The role is based at our regional office in Greenstone Hill, Johannesburg, with frequent travel to a site in Mozambique. The schedule is a 6‑week on, 2‑week off rotation, with a 2‑3 month onboarding period in the office.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile environmental management plans and monitoring procedures.
- Implement and maintain environmental monitoring plans.
- Plan and execute environmental monitoring programmes.
- Collect environmental samples following standard protocols.
- Record and maintain accurate field data and sample logs.
- Perform preliminary analysis of water, air, terrestrial, aquatic, and noise samples.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot monitoring equipment.
- Ensure all field instruments are in proper working order.
- Collate environmental data and prepare detailed reports.
- Identify and manage onsite risks and communicate them to the team.
- Participate in coordination meetings and toolbox talks.
- Support international projects with the Africa, Europe & Middle East team as needed.
Applicant Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Biological Science, or a related field (Honours or Master’s is a plus).
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and accurate data recording.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management tools.
