Role Overview

We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our team in Johannesburg. In this role, you will support our legal and conveyancing departments with financial administration. Your primary focus will be on trust accounting, ensuring that all financial activities follow legal and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Trust Accounting:

  • Manage daily transactions for trust and business accounts.
  • Accurately process receipts, payments, and authorized transfers.
  • Maintain clear records of trust creditor balances.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations and assist with trust audits.
  • Ensure all activities comply with the Legal Practice Act and firm policies.

General Finance and Administration:

  • Prepare Statements of Account and process invoices.
  • Capture financial data and manage digital filing systems.
  • Assist with billing, fee allocations, and bank reconciliations.
  • Support month-end procedures and basic financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external service providers as needed.

Compliance:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client and financial information.
  • Follow internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Assist with FICA-related queries when necessary.

Requirements

  • Matric certificate and a relevant qualification in accounting, finance, or bookkeeping.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar role within a law firm.
  • Proven experience with trust accounting and legal accounting software.
  • Strong knowledge of the Legal Practice Act.
  • Excellent numerical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Professional communication skills and high ethical standards.
