About the Role
The Ramp Agent is responsible for ensuring the safety, security and efficiency of aircraft operations on the ground. Key duties include:
- Adhering to safety regulations for dangerous goods.
- Maintaining general safety and security around the aircraft.
- Coordinating with crew and ground handlers to obtain boarding clearance.
- Monitoring the loading and offloading of baggage and cargo.
- Informing ground handling partners of any load changes.
- Ensuring all handling agents and service providers are present for arrivals to reduce delays.
- Conducting ramp safety audits when required.
- Keeping ramp vehicles clean and fueled.
- Picking up and dropping off crew as needed.
- Monitoring flight operations to meet on‑time performance targets.
- Allocating delays and assisting with crew requests (clean‑up services, water, restroom facilities).
- Ensuring all required service providers (ACSA, fuel handler, etc.) are present.
- Performing ad‑hoc inspections in the baggage department.
- Carrying out any duty delegated by the senior on duty.
- Arranging support for heavy or oversized equipment (e.g., motorized wheelchairs).
- Maintaining sufficient staff as per SLA.
- Conducting FOD (Foreign Object Debris) checks and reporting irregular activities.
- Coordinating any disruptive operations.
- Monitoring ramp and passenger service KPIs (boarding gate closure time, equipment positioning, etc.).
- Completing ramp agent forms for every flight.
- Compiling reports for irregularities or incidents when required.
- Liaising across departments and stations to ensure on‑time departure.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an airline or aviation environment (passenger services, ramp services, or baggage handling).
- Code 08 driver’s licence (essential).
- No criminal record.
- Knowledge of airside operations and airport procedures.
- Strong planning, organisational and time‑management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Ability to multitask and delegate.
- Computer literate.
- Customer‑orientated mindset.
