Role Overview
We are looking for three dedicated Foresters to oversee our harvesting operations in Mpumalanga. The successful candidates will be responsible for managing timber production, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining high-quality standards in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations Management: Oversee timber transport to ensure timely delivery. Ensure that an Operating Harvesting Plan (OHP) is in place for all active sites. Monitor daily production and review forest reports.
- Quality Control: Conduct volume reconciliations and log quality audits. Perform weekly management checklists and post-harvesting audits to ensure all work meets company standards.
- Safety and Compliance: Enforce Health, Safety, and Environment (SHE) standards. Conduct regular “toolbox talks” with staff and ensure all activities follow forestry best practices.
- Contractor & Staff Supervision: Manage contractor performance and daily operations. Identify training needs for team members, manage staff productivity, and lead safety committee meetings.
- Technical Tasks: Mark trees for thinning according to specific regimes. Monitor the maintenance and licensing of vehicles and equipment to prevent downtime.
Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 and a National Diploma in Forestry (NQF Level 6). A B-Tech or BSc Degree in Forestry (NQF Level 7) is an added advantage.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a Field Forester or in a similar role.
- Skills: Previous experience specifically in harvesting operations is highly preferred.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with Micro-forest systems, data management, and environmental management systems (EMS).
