Frontshop Assistant – Mthatha

We are currently looking for a motivated Frontshop Assistant to join our team at the Mthatha branch in the Eastern Cape.
Role Overview
As a Frontshop Assistant, your primary goal is to maintain high merchandising standards and provide excellent customer service at the point of sale. You will ensure the store is well-stocked, correctly priced, and that every customer has a positive shopping experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
- Experience: 0 to 6 months of retail work experience.
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
- Background: Clear criminal record and a clear credit rating.
- Transport: Valid driver’s license and your own reliable transport.
Bonus Skills (Advantageous)
- 1 year of work experience in a retail environment.
- A certificate in Retail Business Management.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, or SAP).
Key Responsibilities
Merchandising and Stock Control
- Keep shelves fully stocked and neatly organized at all times.
- Monitor product expiry dates and rotate stock regularly.
- Ensure all items have the correct price labels and report any discrepancies.
- Help with receiving, off-loading, and packing stock in the storeroom or on the floor.
- Assist with stocktakes and counting inventory.
Customer Service and Sales
- Greet and assist customers with a friendly and professional attitude.
- Process payments accurately, including cash, cards, vouchers, and loyalty points.
- Handle customer queries and complaints efficiently, escalating to management when necessary.
- Ensure all items are scanned correctly before they leave the store.
Store Operations
- Maintain a clean and tidy work area (housekeeping).
- Adhere to all company policies, safety rules, and uniform standards.
- Follow security procedures to prevent stock loss or suspicious behavior.
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Problem-solving ability and knowing when to ask for help.
- The ability to follow procedures and work with minimal supervision.
- Reliability and a strong sense of responsibility.
