Frontshop Assistant – Springfield, Durban

Dis-Chem Pharmacies, South Africa’s leading pharmaceutical retailer, is seeking a motivated Frontshop Assistant for our Springfield branch. Since 1978, Dis-Chem has been committed to providing excellent service and quality products. We are looking for an individual who will maintain our high merchandising standards and provide friendly support to our customers at the point of sale.

Role Overview

In this position, you will ensure that our store is well-stocked and that every customer has a positive shopping experience. You will handle everything from shelf organization to processing payments at the till.

Key Responsibilities

  • Merchandising: Keep shelves fully stocked, neatly presented, and correctly labeled. Ensure all products are within their “sell-by” dates.
  • Customer Service: Greet customers warmly and provide helpful advice. Handle queries regarding out-of-stock items promptly.
  • Sales & Payments: Accurately process payments including cash, cards, vouchers, and loyalty points. Ensure till drawers are balanced and secure.
  • Stock Control: Assist with receiving stock, organizing the storeroom, and participating in regular stocktakes. Report any damaged or expired items to management.
  • Store Maintenance: Keep the shopping environment clean and tidy according to company standards.
  • Compliance: Follow all health and safety rules, company policies, and uniform requirements.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
  • 0 to 6 months of experience in a retail environment.
  • South African citizenship.
  • Clear criminal and credit record.
  • Valid driver’s license and your own reliable transport.

Advantageous:

  • 1 year of retail work experience.
  • Certification in Retail Business Management.
  • Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with SAP.

Skills Needed

  • Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic math skills for accurate cash handling.
  • The ability to solve problems and follow procedures.
  • A proactive attitude with the ability to work well under minimal supervision.
