Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A three-year degree or national diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, Quantity Surveying, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: At least six years of relevant experience in a building control office, specifically dealing with building plan recommendations, approvals, or inspections.
  • Leadership: Previous experience in a supervisory role is highly preferred.
  • Licensing: A valid Code B driver’s license.
  • Skills: Proficiency in basic computer applications.
  • Clearance: Must be willing to undergo a criminal record check and provide fingerprints.

Key Responsibilities

As the Functional Head, your main duties will include:

  • Management: Directing personnel and managing daily operations within the subregional office.
  • Regulation: Assisting the Deputy Director in enforcing National Building Regulations.
  • Supervision: Overseeing the entire process for building plan approvals and the issuing of occupation certificates.
  • Law Enforcement: Identifying building violations, responding to complaints, and initiating legal enforcement when necessary.
  • Public Support: Providing expert advice and information regarding building requirements to the general public.
  • Planning Support: Offering feedback and data to help inform local spatial planning and land use management.
  • Resource Management: Organizing office resources to ensure all key performance goals are met.
