General Manager: Roodepoort Theatre
Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is an agency of the City of Johannesburg that manages the Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre, and Soweto Theatre. Our mission is to provide world-class, innovative, and inclusive programming that serves diverse communities. We are currently looking for a dedicated and experienced General Manager to lead the Roodepoort Theatre.
Primary Function
The General Manager will direct and implement the vision and mission of the Roodepoort Theatre. This role involves providing overall leadership and operational control to ensure the theatre grows in value and remains consistent with the policies set by the Board of Directors.
Key Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Management or a related field (NQF Level 7) and a Grade 12 certificate.
- Experience: At least 10 years of senior management experience in Operations or General Management.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage at a high level.
- Personal Attributes: Assertive, analytical, and logical. Must be able to work independently and under pressure.
- Flexibility: Ability to work overtime as required by the nature of the theatre industry.
- Technical Skills: Strong report writing and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Develop and implement strategies to ensure the theatre delivers high-quality service to all customers and clients.
- Facility Management: Oversee the daily running of the theatre, including building maintenance, stage machinery, and asset management.
- Staff Management: Define and manage staff performance indicators, job designs, and work procedures to meet service delivery goals.
- Strategic Planning: Present frameworks for future growth and maintain accurate records of work in progress.
- Marketing and Revenue: Develop effective marketing campaigns to meet revenue targets and attract new audiences.
- Production and Infrastructure: Upgrade systems and equipment to support high-quality productions and diversify the types of shows offered.
- Partnerships: Coordinate and monitor partnerships for non-theatre programming, such as music festivals, poetry events, and movie screenings.
