Job Overview
We are looking for a dedicated General Worker to maintain our sports grounds. In this role, you will be responsible for the upkeep of athletic fields and outdoor facilities to ensure they are safe and well-presented for the university community.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain assigned sports areas and grounds.
- Monitor cleaning supplies and request new materials as needed.
- Collect and dispose of litter properly.
- Operate power tools and machinery, including brush cutters, blowers, and various lawnmowers.
- Maintain irrigation systems to ensure fields are properly watered.
- Mark lines and boundaries on sporting fields.
- Trim trees, rake leaves, and maintain lawns and athletic surfaces.
- Drive tractors or motor vehicles to transport equipment and materials.
- Lift and move heavy objects when necessary for maintenance tasks.
- Apply fertilizers and pesticides according to safety instructions.
- Inspect and care for all tools and equipment to keep them in good working order.
- Follow all safety procedures and promote a safe working environment.
- Attend regular team meetings.
Minimum Requirements
- A Grade 10 qualification (NQF Level 2). Please provide proof of qualification.
- A valid Code EB/B driver’s license.
- Previous experience performing the duties mentioned above.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- At least one year of experience in a similar role.
- Experience operating professional gardening equipment and machinery.
- A solid understanding of workplace safety procedures.
