Handyman: Bricklaying (Velddrif)

Bergrivier Municipality is committed to serving the communities of Redelinghuys, Eendekuil, Aurora, Velddrif, Porterville, Piketberg, Dwarskersbos, Laaiplek, Goedverwacht, and Wittewater. We are currently seeking a skilled Handyman specializing in bricklaying to join our team in Velddrif.

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will manage the setup, progress, and completion of specialized bricklaying tasks. This role includes supervising support staff, ensuring high productivity, and maintaining accurate administrative records to help the department reach its goals.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least a Grade 10 certificate (First School Leaving Certificate).
  • One (1) year of relevant experience in bricklaying.
  • Proficiency in at least two of the Western Cape’s official languages (Afrikaans, English, or Xhosa).
  • Strong attention to detail and a high sense of responsibility.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise others effectively.

Physical and Working Conditions

  • Must be physically fit and able to perform manual labor.
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be comfortable working in confined spaces, such as manholes, pipes, and culverts.
  • Availability to work outside normal hours during emergencies or for planned overtime.
  • Willingness to work across the entire municipal area when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general labor for building operations, including maintenance of roads, storm-water systems, and sewerage infrastructure.
  • Complete internal documents such as timesheets and productivity reports.
  • Supervise civil service operations and maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are stored and cared for properly.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following all health and safety protocols to prevent injuries.
  • Participate in the Municipality’s performance management and development systems.
