Job Purpose

The Income Accountant is responsible for managing revenue within the Financial Services department. This role involves implementing official policies for processing, verifying, and reconciling accounts receivable. Key duties include identifying and recovering overdue accounts, guiding staff on financial procedures, and handling administrative tasks related to rates payments and certification.

Requirements

  • A relevant 3-year tertiary qualification (preferably a B.Com degree or National Diploma with Financial Accounting as a major).
  • Compliance with the Minimum Competency Level for Financial Officials as prescribed by regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • A valid Code B driver’s license.

Key Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of GRAP (Generally Recognised Accounting Practice) principles.
  • Ability to prepare bank reconciliation statements and manage cash receipts and payments.
  • Experience in distinguishing between capital and operational expenditure.
  • Knowledge of costing concepts, including overhead rates and activity-based costing.
  • Ability to analyze financial data using spreadsheets and present information in clear tables or graphs.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and management skills.
  • High level of responsibility and the ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to prepare professional reports for external agencies.
