Job Opportunity: Internal Auditor

The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is a state-owned insurer that provides cover to all drivers in South Africa against liability for injuries resulting from traffic collisions. We are currently seeking a professional Internal Auditor to join our team in Centurion, Gauteng.

Key Performance Areas

1. Audit Planning

As an Internal Auditor, you will be responsible for the initial stages of the audit process, ensuring all activities are well-organized and risk-focused.

  • Prepare audit notification letters and plan annual audit activities.
  • Conduct preliminary surveys to understand business processes.
  • Identify potential risks and prepare detailed Audit Planning Memorandums.
  • Develop audit programs based on preliminary findings.
  • Meet with management to discuss audit objectives and scopes.
  • Ensure all audit files meet Quality Assurance and IIA standards.

2. Conducting Audits

You will execute audit programs to provide assurance that internal controls are functioning effectively.

  • Evaluate the soundness and application of internal control systems.
  • Verify that resources are used efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure assets are protected against fraud, corruption, or irregularity.
  • Discuss audit findings with management during the process to ensure accuracy.
  • Follow up on previous audit recommendations and action plans.

3. Reporting and Analysis

Communication is key to this role. You will be responsible for translating data into actionable insights.

  • Draft clear audit findings supported by valid evidence.
  • Identify the root causes of issues and provide practical recommendations for improvement.
  • Conduct exit meetings with management to present final reports.
  • Report on compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and National Treasury frameworks.
  • Provide regular progress updates to management.

4. Stakeholder Management

Maintain professional relationships to ensure smooth auditing operations.

  • Build proactive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Handle inquiries and information requests professionally.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Auditing or a related field.
  • Professional Membership: Must be registered with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
  • Certification: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation is a significant advantage.
  • Experience: At least 4 years of experience in an auditing environment.
  • Advantageous: Previous experience in an auditing or advisory firm of similar size to the RAF.
