Internship: Asset Management
The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality is the most advanced commercial city in Africa and the engine room of the South African economy. It is a world-class city with a unique African character and state-of-the-art infrastructure. We are looking for motivated graduates to join our Asset Management team for a professional internship.
Role Overview
The primary focus of this internship is to assist in monitoring and reviewing accounting procedures for the City’s fixed assets. This includes managing how assets are recorded, transferred, and disposed of. You will help ensure that all departments follow asset management policies and financial standards to maintain an accurate and well-supported asset register.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (NQF level 4) plus a Degree or National Diploma in Accounting or a related qualification (NQF level 6 or 7).
- Experience: No previous experience is required.
- Residency: Only residents of the City of Johannesburg will be considered for this position.
Key Learning Areas
During this internship, you will gain practical experience in the following areas:
- Monitoring the application of accounting procedures for all fixed asset transactions.
- Implementing control procedures and asset management policies in line with GRAP (Generally Recognised Accounting Practice) requirements.
- Tracking the acquisition, condition, and status of various City projects and assets.
- Reviewing transactional data used to prepare financial statements and asset disclosures.
- Coordinating daily operations within the Asset Monitoring and Accounting department.
- Developing professional skills through interaction with Asset Management specialists.
