Job Summary

Africa’s leading specialist in the manufacturing of premium knitted and woven mattress fabric, based in Elsies River Industrial, is looking for a Mechanical Intern. In this role you will gain hands‑on experience with mechanical systems used in mass production and learn about the materials that make up the bedding manufacturing industry.

You will work closely with production, maintenance and quality teams to improve process efficiency, reduce downtime and ensure high product quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Record and report daily production figures.
• Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.
• Analyse and improve production processes and reporting.
• Participate in process improvement and engineering projects.
• Support root‑cause analysis using tools such as 5 Why and Fishbone diagrams.
• Help create and update documentation, including work instructions, SOPs and process flows.
• Support Lean initiatives such as 5S, waste reduction and Kaizen.
• Prepare basic KPI dashboards.
• Assist in creating and updating technical drawings, layouts and other documentation.
• Participate in quality control inspections and defect root‑cause analysis.

Minimum Requirements

• Completed bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with SharePoint, cloud‑based platforms, Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook is an advantage.
• Experience with AutoCAD.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
