Key Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
- Registration with the HPCSA as a qualified Laboratory Assistant.
- Proficiency in computer use.
- Previous experience in a high-volume specimen reception department.
- The ability to handle challenging queries and manage incomplete reports or “on-hold” lists.
- Experience with Meditech shipping batches and providing results over the phone is highly advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills in English (understanding Afrikaans is a plus).
- A client-focused approach with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work independently and effectively within a team under pressure.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
As a Laboratory Assistant, your daily duties will include:
- Receiving and accurately processing medical specimens.
- Preparing and distributing specimens while maintaining strict turnaround times.
- Managing administrative queries.
- Shipping specimens to various reference laboratories.
- Ensuring all work meets high-quality standards.
