About the SACAA
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is an agency of the Department of Transport. Established to ensure the safety and security of civil aviation, the SACAA oversees the industry’s compliance with international standards and national regulations.
Role Overview
The Manager of Examinations is responsible for overseeing the design and administration of written examinations within the Personnel Licensing (PEL) department. This role also involves managing the designation of examiners and instructors to ensure high standards of aviation safety.
Key Responsibilities
Examination Oversight
- Develop and manage systems to oversee practical examination standards for all aviation personnel.
- Ensure compliance with ICAO international best practices and national regulations.
- Supervise designated examiners and instructors involved in practical testing.
Standards and Regulations
- Develop, implement, and review Civil Aviation Regulations (CARs) and Technical Standards (CATS).
- Manage amendments to regulations regarding the testing and training of aviation personnel.
Team Management
- Lead and mentor staff to ensure they meet performance objectives and regulatory standards.
- Promote a high-performance culture that reflects SACAA core values.
- Facilitate skills development and training for team members.
Industry Collaboration
- Liaise with industry stakeholders to solve problems and improve training standards.
- Manage industry participation in the development of oversight systems and testing standards.
- Represent the SACAA in a professional and positive manner.
Job Requirements
Education and Qualifications
- Minimum: NQF Level 6 qualification in Engineering or Management.
- Required Licenses: Must hold a Commercial Pilot License (CPL), be a Qualified Air Traffic Controller, or a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.
- Preferred: NQF Level 7 qualification.
Experience
- At least 4 years of experience in Civil Aviation Safety Operations, OR
- At least 3 years of experience in a management role.
