Medical Officer (Grade 1 to 3)

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is looking for qualified Medical Officers to join their team. This department is responsible for providing public healthcare services to the people of the Western Cape province.

Minimum Requirements

  • An appropriate medical qualification that allows for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
  • Current registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
  • A valid driver’s license (Code B/EB).
  • Willingness to work after hours.

Experience Requirements

Experience levels are categorized into three grades based on your years of service after registration:

Grade 1:

  • SA Qualified: No experience required after registration.
  • Foreign Qualified: 1 year of experience after registration with a recognized foreign council (for those not required to perform Community Service in South Africa).

Grade 2:

  • SA Qualified: At least 5 years of experience after registration with the HPCSA.
  • Foreign Qualified: At least 6 years of experience after registration with a recognized foreign council.

Grade 3:

  • SA Qualified: At least 10 years of experience after registration with the HPCSA.
  • Foreign Qualified: At least 11 years of experience after registration with a recognized foreign council.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective management, supervisory, and decision-making abilities.
  • Working knowledge of current medical legislation and public service policies.
  • Experience in a district hospital or Primary Health Care (PHC) setting.
