About the Role

Dis‑Chem Pharmacies is looking for a dedicated Merchandiser to join our team at the Mall of the North. In this role you will maintain high merchandising standards, support sales, and provide excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Restock merchandise to maximise sales.
  • Store and pack delivered stock correctly and on time.
  • Ensure shelf stock is not past sell‑by dates.
  • Keep the full range of products available on shelves.
  • Rotate stock regularly using FIFO principles.
  • Report low stock, out‑of‑stock items, damaged or expired stock to management.
  • Assist with stock counting and general stocktaking.
  • Follow Dis‑Chem’s operating standards, store layout and planograms.
  • Flatten boxes after unpacking and move them to the designated area.
  • Present front shop shelves neatly with correct labels and pricing.
  • Report any price discrepancies.
  • Stay updated on current and new products.
  • Build, face up, stock and maintain merchandising displays.
  • Maintain daily physical upkeep of the store and displays.
  • Assist with loading and off‑loading of stock.
  • Mark items without barcodes clearly.
  • Support back‑shopping and new staff training.
  • Provide friendly, helpful and courteous assistance to all customers.
  • Follow up on out‑of‑stock queries using the customer service list.
  • Resolve customer stock queries promptly.
  • Wear the correct uniform and badge at all times.
  • Minimise losses by handling merchandise carefully.
  • Adhere to all Dis‑Chem policies, SOPs, health and safety rules.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Up to 6 months of retail experience.
  • Computer literate – MS Office.
  • Willing and able to work retail hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of retail experience.
  • Bilingual (any additional language).
  • Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry.
  • Product and category knowledge.
  • Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for ordering and stock taking.
  • Report suspicious behaviour involving staff or customers.

Competencies

  • Strong command of the English language.
  • Presentable appearance.
  • Effective engagement with customers, management and staff.
  • Trustworthy and honest.
  • Good time management.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Willing and able to work retail hours.
  • Physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes; must adhere to health and safety standards.
  • Reliable transport and/or reside close to the store.
  • South African citizen.
  • Clear credit and criminal records.
