About the Role

The Receptionist is the first point of contact for visitors and patients. The role involves greeting guests, handling phone calls, managing admissions, assisting with digital platforms such as the Netcare mobile app, and performing administrative tasks to keep the reception desk running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients, visitors, doctors and other stakeholders with a friendly and professional attitude.
  • Direct patients to the appropriate departments or wards and keep them informed while they wait.
  • Assist patients and visitors with general information about hospital services, locations and procedures.
  • Collect and verify patient personal, medical aid and insurance information during admission.
  • Enter accurate patient data into the SAP system and confirm details with each visit or admission.
  • Obtain and record all required consents, terms and conditions, and authorisations.
  • Process payments (cash, credit card, guarantees) and reconcile receipts in accordance with SOPs.
  • Handle phone calls professionally, transfer to relevant departments and record messages accurately.
  • Maintain the reception area: clean, organized, stocked and welcoming.
  • Protect patient privacy and comply with all confidentiality and privacy regulations.
  • Follow all internal policies, SOPs and quality standards, reporting any issues to the line manager.
  • Support digitisation initiatives such as electronic patient records and online admissions.
  • Participate in team meetings, provide feedback and support continuous improvement.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Proficiency in data entry and computer use.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of medical aid benefits is a plus.

Education & Experience

Essential: Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.

Preferred: Previous experience in a hospital environment, SAP ISH experience, and a customer service role.
