Salary: R 345,135.46 – R 448,006.66 per year (plus benefits)

About the Position

The OR Tambo District Municipality is seeking a dedicated Platoon Commander to join our Fire and Rescue Services team. Reporting to the Station Commander, you will play a vital role in managing emergency responses and ensuring the safety of our community in the Eastern Cape.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Grade 12 (Matric) and a 2-year SAESI Diploma in Fire Technology (or an equivalent qualification).
• Licenses: A valid Code C1 Driver’s License with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
• Certifications: A Level III First Aid Certificate and a Computer Literacy Certificate.
• Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience in fire services.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will handle various operational and leadership tasks, including:

• Operational Planning: Developing and coordinating strategic plans for firefighting and rescue operations.
• Policy Oversight: Helping to manage and implement fire service policies, procedures, and safety controls.
• Emergency Response: Leading and coordinating firefighting teams during active duties to minimize the loss of life and property.
• Staff Leadership: Managing the performance and daily activities of personnel within the fire services subsection.
• Resource Management: Assisting with the financial and asset management of the fire and rescue department.
• Communication: Managing reports and working with community stakeholders to improve fire safety and awareness.
