Role Overview
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking a dedicated Principal Porter. This role is essential for providing quality support services within a hospital environment, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients and equipment.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Minimum of Grade 10 (or equivalent).
- Experience: Previous experience working as a porter in a hospital or healthcare setting.
Job Requirements and Work Conditions
- Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Ability to report for duty as early as 06:30 on weekends and holidays.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting and moving patients from or onto beds, trolleys, and wheelchairs.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- The ability to solve problems and work independently or as part of a team.
- Knowledge of hospital protocols, including Dead-on-Arrival and the removal of corpses.
- Understanding of disciplinary procedures and staff performance management.
- Familiarity with Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards.
- Basic computer literacy (MS Word and Outlook).
