Job Overview
The Principal Specialist for Catchment Management & Water Quality will lead the City’s efforts in protecting water resources. This role focuses on the sustainable management of water catchments, improving water quality, and ensuring the City remains resilient against climate change through integrated water resource management.
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree (NQF level 7) in Natural Sciences, Environmental Management, Environmental Health, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 6 to 8 years of professional experience, with at least 4 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- A Matric certificate.
Primary Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for leading activities that ensure water security and environmental protection. Your main goals include:
- Developing and leading strategic and operational plans for the Catchment Management section.
- Managing financial budgets, procurement processes, and demand planning.
- Overseeing the recruitment, selection, and performance management of staff.
- Implementing water resource management initiatives in line with the National Water Act and local by-laws.
- Monitoring and reporting on water quality and the health of the City’s catchments.
- Ensuring all activities comply with international standards and environmental regulations.
- Building strong relationships with government bodies, stakeholders, and community partners.
- Managing risks and ensuring good governance across all departmental projects.
