Role Summary
The Principal Specialist will lead the City’s climate change initiatives. The primary goal is to develop and oversee strategies that respond to climate change impacts. This involves identifying environmental risks, creating adaptation plans, and integrating these measures into municipal operations to protect the City’s infrastructure and communities.
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree (NQF level 7) in Natural Sciences, Environmental Science, Geography, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
- Matric certificate.
- 6 to 8 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- A valid Code 8 driver’s license.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning: Lead the operational and financial planning for the climate change section.
- Project Management: Manage the implementation of climate change initiatives and ensure they follow all City policies and procedures.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Track, verify, and report on the progress of climate adaptation actions according to international standards.
- Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, procurement, and resource control to ensure efficient use of funds.
- Team Leadership: Oversee staff recruitment, performance management, and professional development for the team.
- Stakeholder Relations: Build strong partnerships with government bodies, training providers, and internal departments to promote climate goals.
- Governance: Implement effective risk management systems and ensure all administrative requirements are met.
