Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 (Specialty: Psychiatry)
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is looking for a qualified Professional Nurse to join the Therapeutic Learning Centre. This department provides essential public healthcare services to the Western Cape province.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will provide specialized psychiatric nursing care, ensuring high standards of clinical practice and patient safety. This role involves leadership, administrative duties, and direct patient care within a multidisciplinary team.
Educational Requirements
- A Basic R425 qualification (Diploma or Degree in Nursing) or an equivalent qualification that allows for registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- A post-basic nursing qualification (at least 1 year) in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science, accredited by SANC.
- Current registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
Experience Requirements
Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years of recognizable nursing experience after registering as a Professional Nurse with SANC.
Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years of recognizable nursing experience. At least 10 years of this experience must be in the psychiatric specialty after obtaining the one-year post-basic qualification.
Key Competencies and Skills
- Deep understanding of nursing legislation, ethical practices, and the professional scope of practice.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Knowledge of Human Resources (People Management) and financial management policies.
- Proficiency in computer programs, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to work effectively within a Functional Business Unit (FBU).
Job Requirements
- Willingness to work shifts, including night duty, weekends, and public holidays.
- Ability to deputize for the Operational Manager when required.
