Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 3 (General Nurse) – Palliative Care
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is responsible for providing public healthcare services to the people of the Western Cape province. We are looking for dedicated Professional Nurses to join our team in the Palliative Care sector.
Position Overview
- Job Type: Full-Time
- Field: Medical / Healthcare

- Salary Grade: Grade 1 to 3 (based on experience)
Educational Requirements
- A Basic R425 qualification (Diploma or Degree in Nursing) or an equivalent qualification.
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse and Midwife or Psychiatry (where applicable).
Experience Requirements
- Grade 1: No experience required after registration with SANC.
- Grade 2: At least 10 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registering with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- Grade 3: At least 20 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registering with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
Additional Job Requirements
- A valid driver’s license (Code B/EB).
- A willingness to undergo specialized training in Palliative Care.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication skills.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- In-depth knowledge of nursing legislation and public service policies.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships within a multi-disciplinary medical team.
