About the Western Cape Education Department (WCED)

The WCED is responsible for education across the Western Cape, from early childhood development through to high school. Our mission is to improve student results in math and language, boost matric pass rates, and ensure children in every community have access to quality schooling.

Role Overview

We are looking for a qualified Quantity Surveyor to join our team. This role focuses on managing the costs and planning for education infrastructure, including building new schools and maintaining existing ones.

Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying.
  • Professional Registration: You must be registered as a Professional Quantity Surveyor with the SACQSP. (Candidates currently registered with SACQSP may be considered if they are willing to complete a developmental program and achieve professional status within three years).
  • Experience: At least three years of experience working on infrastructure projects from start to finish.
  • Licensing: A valid driver’s license.
  • Technology: Proficiency in using computers and standard office software.

Key Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience managing both new construction (capital projects) and maintenance work on existing buildings.
  • A strong understanding of project management and infrastructure planning.
  • The ability to work well both independently and as part of a professional team.
  • Strong organizational skills, including technical report writing and research.
  • The ability to follow and apply design guidelines and technical specifications to construction solutions.
