Job Summary
Assist the supervisor with the maintenance of sand filters in the filter house. Tasks include washing and sterilising filters, opening and closing manual valves, cleaning filter houses, toilets, changing rooms and eating areas, and operating sump pumps to prevent flooding.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 education
- At least 1 year of relevant experience
Primary Duties
- Help maintain sand filters: check filters, top up sand, remove mud balls, tilt, sieve, and clean spreader holes, plates, drains, and sand traps.
- Assist with washing and sterilising sand filters.
- Operate sump pumps and monitor visual checks and amp meters.
- Perform routine shift tasks, hand-feed lime and HTH, and support filter house shutdowns.
- Clean facilities such as toilets, changing rooms, and eating areas.
- Follow occupational health and safety procedures, manage PPE, and report injuries, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, chemical spills, and incidents to the supervisor.
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic understanding of water treatment processes.
- Basic literacy and numeracy.
- Safety training and a positive attitude towards safety.
