We are looking for a dedicated Researcher to join our team on a three-year contract to help drive innovation and scientific growth.
Role Overview
In this role, you will focus on plant taxonomy, botany, and systematics. You will be responsible for conducting high-level research, managing specimens, and mentoring the next generation of scientists. This position requires a mix of fieldwork, data analysis, and academic writing.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply expert knowledge of plant anatomy, morphology, and taxonomy, specifically regarding Southern African flora.
- Manage herbarium practices and oversee the curation of plant specimens.
- Use identification tools and taxonomic databases, such as BRAHMS.
- Conduct fieldwork across various South African ecosystems.
- Write and publish scientific articles in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
- Supervise and mentor postgraduate students (MSc and PhD) in Botany and related fields.
- Build and manage research partnerships at both national and international levels.
- Analyze complex data and provide clear recommendations based on research findings.
- Ensure all work complies with occupational health and safety regulations.
Job Requirements
- A PhD or an MSc with at least 3 years of post-qualification experience in Plant Taxonomy, Botany, or Systematics.
- A proven publication record, including at least two scientific papers already published.
- Experience presenting research at national or international conferences.
- Proven ability to secure research funding and manage collaborations.
- Experience supervising MSc or PhD students.
- The ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A valid Code 8 or Code 10 driver’s license.
