Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Registrar for General Surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital. This role involves comprehensive clinical service, including operative procedures and patient care. As part of a larger training ecosystem, the successful candidate may also rotate through other facilities such as Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, New Somerset Hospital, and various regional hospitals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality medical services in General Surgery.
- Participate in compulsory commuted overtime, including emergency and after-hours call cover.
- Engage in clinical governance, leadership, and teaching activities.
- Conduct research and contribute to the department’s academic output.
- Maintain accurate patient records and oversee clinical care.
Requirements
- MBChB degree and registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner (Independent Practice).
- Successful completion of the FCS (SA) primary examination.
- Sufficient clinical experience in General Surgery following community service.
- Previous research experience, such as conference presentations or publications.
- Ability to work across a multi-hospital training platform.
- Commitment to registering as a postgraduate student with the University of the Western Cape.
