Job Opportunity: Research Technician (Residue Laboratory)

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is seeking two qualified Research Technicians to join our Residue Laboratory in Pretoria. The ARC is South Africa’s leading agricultural research institution, dedicated to excellence in agricultural research and development.

Role Overview

In this role, you will provide high-quality analytical and diagnostic services. Your primary focus will be conducting immunological tests on animal tissues, honey, and milk samples while maintaining strict adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine immunological assays, specifically ELISA analysis, on animal feed, environmental samples, and animal tissues.
• Validate immunological assay techniques.
• Receive, record, and store samples correctly according to laboratory protocols.
• Plan and execute diagnostic work and enter data into Excel and the LabWare system.
• Evaluate and interpret technical data and troubleshoot any technical challenges.
• Maintain stock levels for reagents and consumables.
• Ensure compliance with the ISO 17025 Quality Management system.
• Support research projects by providing technical input and carrying out assigned tasks.
• Collaborate with senior staff to improve existing test methods or develop new ones.

Requirements

• A National Diploma, BTech degree, or equivalent in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Alternatively, a relevant 2-year qualification with 3 years of applicable experience.
• A BSc in Microbiology or a related field is considered an advantage.
• Experience working in a microbiological or accredited laboratory is preferred.
• Strong ability to interpret analytical data and solve technical problems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work effectively under pressure to meet sample processing deadlines.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 Quality Management standards.
