The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is South Africa’s premier agricultural research institution. We are seeking a dedicated Research Technician to join our team and contribute to excellence in agricultural research and development.
Role Summary
The successful candidate will provide technical support for research projects, focusing on laboratory tasks, field surveys, and data management. This role involves both independent work and the supervision of allocated resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, capture, and process research data with basic analysis.
- Prepare clear verbal and written reports on work activities and results.
- Perform diagnostic services and laboratory tasks related to research projects.
- Participate in field surveys.
- Provide technical support for scientific publications and presentations.
- Assist with financial administration and the maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Coordinate work activities and supervise assigned staff or resources.
- Assist with client requests and general administration.
Job Requirements
- Education: BTech, BSc, or BSc Hons in Microbiology or Biotechnology.
- Experience: At least two years of experience working in a microbiology laboratory.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in molecular techniques and the isolation and identification of bacteria.
- Laboratory Proficiency: Experience preparing media, stock solutions, and buffers, including accurate laboratory calculations (CFU, dilutions, etc.).
- Software: Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Experience with sequence analysis software is a plus.
- Specialized Knowledge: Knowledge of bacterial diseases in honeybees is an added advantage.
- General Skills: Ability to work systematically and independently.
- License: A valid South African driver’s license.
