Role Overview
As the Retail Assistant Manager, you will support the daily operations of the store, ensuring high standards of customer service, stock management, and staff leadership.

Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 is required. A Diploma or Degree in Retail, Business, or a related field will be an advantage.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a retail environment, ideally in a supervisory or leadership role.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Management & Ordering

  • Place and follow up on orders with factories and suppliers.
  • Manage deliveries, check stock quality upon arrival, and report any damages or shortfalls.
  • Record all received stock accurately using the Meat Matrix system.
  • Monitor daily stock levels, run reports, and manage stock shrinkage or losses.

Store Operations & Housekeeping

  • Maintain a clean and organized store, including floors, offices, and cold storage areas.
  • Ensure strict adherence to HACCP food safety standards and OHSA health and safety regulations.
  • Organize product displays and shelving to create an attractive shopping environment.
  • Manage in-store promotions and ensure the team is familiar with current deals.

Staff Leadership

  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and training of new employees.
  • Manage employee performance, discipline, and daily motivation.
  • Oversee staff attendance and clocking systems.

Financial & Cash Management

  • Supervise daily cash-ups and minimize financial losses.
  • Manage secure cash movements and ensure the store safe is locked at all times.
  • Oversee cash levels for in-store ATMs where applicable.

Customer Service

  • Provide excellent service to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Handle customer complaints and feedback promptly and professionally.
  • Analyze shopping patterns to help attract and retain customers.

Systems & Security

  • Maintain the Meat Matrix system and monitor CCTV cameras.
  • Work with security guards and manage the store’s alarm system to ensure a safe environment.
