Retail Assistant Manager – Secunda

Eskort has been a household name for over a century, providing South Africa with its best-loved bacon, sausages, and cold meats. We are looking for an experienced and energetic Retail Assistant Manager to join our team in Secunda, Mpumalanga.

Role Overview

As the Retail Assistant Manager, you will support the daily operations of the store. Your focus will be on maintaining high standards of customer service, managing stock efficiently, leading a productive team, and ensuring the store remains profitable and safe.

Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 is mandatory. A Diploma or Degree in Retail, Business, or a related field will be an advantage.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a retail environment, with a proven track record in a supervisory or leadership role.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Management

  • Place and follow up on orders with factories and suppliers.
  • Manage deliveries and inspect stock for quality and correct quantities.
  • Monitor stock levels to prevent shortages or excess waste.
  • Use the Meat Matrix system to record and track inventory.
  • Manage stock shrinkage, including damages and losses.

Store Operations & Housekeeping

  • Ensure the entire store, including the Deli and cold rooms, is clean and organized.
  • Maintain strict health and safety standards (HACCP and OHSA regulations).
  • Create attractive product displays and manage store layouts to improve the customer experience.
  • Oversee in-store promotions and merchandising.

Team Leadership

  • Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding, and training.
  • Manage employee performance and maintain workplace discipline.
  • Motivate the team and support employee wellness.
  • Manage staff attendance and scheduling.

Financials & Administration

  • Oversee daily cash-ups and minimize cash losses.
  • Manage secure cash handling and ATM processes.
  • Monitor security systems, including CCTV and alarms.
  • Ensure physical security presence is maintained in the store.

Customer Service

  • Ensure every customer receives excellent service.
  • Handle customer feedback and complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Analyze local buying patterns to ensure the store meets the needs of the community.
