Ray Nkonyeni Municipality is looking for a qualified Safety Officer to join our Aviation Services Unit. This role is essential for maintaining safety standards and ensuring our airport operations comply with all national regulations.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will manage the health, safety, and security of the airport. You will be responsible for ensuring that all airport functions follow the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) guidelines and regulations.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) and a Safety Management System (SMS) Certificate.
- At least three years of experience in an aviation environment.
- An Airside Induction or Familiarization Certificate.
- A valid Code EB driver’s license.
- Strong computer skills, including experience with presentations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
- A clean criminal record (candidates will undergo security vetting).
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance: Implement and maintain safety procedures according to the CAA and the aerodrome manual.
- Inspections: Conduct and record inspections of runways, taxiways, aprons, lighting, and general infrastructure.
- Safety Management: Establish and monitor safety programs, including Foreign Object Debris (FOD) control and bird/wildlife management.
- Risk Assessment: Maintain the Hazard and Safety Risk Register and investigate any safety non-conformances.
- Emergency Planning: Assist with the Aerodrome Emergency Plan and facilitate safety meetings to promote a culture of safety reporting.
- Training & Audits: Support SACAA audits and provide internal aviation awareness training to staff.
- Operations: Monitor Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) and contribute to the daily functioning of the Aviation Services Unit.
