About the Western Cape Education Department (WCED)

The WCED is responsible for early childhood development and primary and secondary school education within the province. Our main goals are to improve literacy and mathematics skills, raise matric results, and ensure all learners in our communities have access to high-quality education.

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated School Finance and Records Officer for Circuit 3. In this role, you will be responsible for managing financial records and administrative processes to support our educational objectives.

Minimum Requirements

  • A 3-year post-matric qualification or degree in Finance.
  • At least 2 years of relevant administrative experience, preferably in finance and records management.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Key Knowledge Areas

Successful candidates should have a strong understanding of:

  • Departmental policies and procedures.
  • The Archives and Records Service Act.
  • The Public Financial Management Act (PFMA).
  • Budgeting processes and Supply Chain Management (SCM) procedures.
  • Financial software (such as Pastel).
  • School administrative processes and Information Management Systems (EMIS, CEMIS, and Leave Management Systems).

Required Skills

  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
  • Technical: Proficient in computer use and financial software like Pastel.
  • Administration: Strong bookkeeping, report writing, and submission skills.
  • Organization: Excellent planning, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Interpersonal: Strong analytical skills and the ability to work well with others.
