About the WCED

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) manages early childhood, primary, and secondary education in the province. Our goal is to improve student performance in literacy and mathematics, increase matric results, and ensure every community has access to quality education.

Position Overview

We are looking for organized and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as School Finance and Records Officers. This role is essential for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring efficient administrative processes within our schools.

Requirements

  • A 3-year degree or diploma in Finance or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in administration, specifically focused on finance and records management.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.

Required Knowledge

Applicants should have a solid understanding of the following:

  • Public Financial Management Act (PFMA) and budgeting processes.
  • Archives and Records Service legislation.
  • Financial software, such as Pastel.
  • School administration systems and procedures (including EMIS and CEMIS).
  • Supply Chain Management (SCM) processes.

Key Skills

  • Computer Literacy: Skilled in using financial software and office programs.
  • Organization: Ability to plan, organize, and manage complex record systems.
  • Communication: Strong writing and presentation skills for reports and submissions.
  • Analysis: Ability to solve problems and interpret financial data accurately.
  • Finance: Practical knowledge of bookkeeping and financial reporting.
