The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is responsible for early childhood development and primary and secondary school education within the province. Our main goals are to improve literacy and mathematics skills, raise matriculation results, and ensure that learners in underprivileged communities have access to quality education.
Role Overview
Position: School Safety Officer (Ref No: 54)
Location: Western Cape
Job Type: Full-Time
Experience: 2 years
Key Responsibilities
As a School Safety Officer, you will lead developmental initiatives such as Youth Clubs, anti-truancy efforts, and “Back to School” programs. Your duties will include:
- Coordinating and facilitating training in conflict management, crime prevention, and safety planning.
- Implementing safety and security training according to the National Schools Safety Framework.
- Managing Youth Development Programs, including after-school and holiday programs.
- Monitoring and reporting on behavioral programs and managing relevant budgets.
- Ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant education policies and legislation.
Requirements
- An appropriate National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or a University Degree.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in a similar field.
- A valid driver’s license.
Knowledge and Skills
Required Knowledge:
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation.
- Financial and budgetary processes (SCM).
- National Environmental Management and Education policies.
- Project planning and the National School Safety Framework.
Required Skills:
- Excellent report writing and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and negotiation abilities.
- Expertise in conflict management and mediation.
- Effective communication in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
- Confidence in presentation and facilitation.
