The Western Cape Department of Agriculture (WCDoA) is dedicated to growing and supporting the agricultural sector. We focus on sustainable resource management, food security, and economic development. We are currently seeking a qualified professional to join our team in Elsenburg to help advance the agri-processing industry.
Job Purpose
The successful candidate will conduct advanced research, evaluate new scientific data, and provide expert advice to support the development of the agri-processing sector. This role involves innovation and technical support to help the industry grow and thrive.
Minimum Requirements
- A 4-year degree: BSc (Hons) in Food Science or an equivalent higher qualification.
- Compulsory registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a Professional Natural Scientist.
- At least three years of post-qualification experience in natural sciences.
- A valid driving license.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and Development: Lead advanced research to create new food products or improve existing ones. Identify innovative processing methods, technologies, and equipment.
- Scientific Communication: Write and publish technical papers for scientific journals and industry platforms.
- Compliance and Standards: Help agri-processing businesses meet official regulations and market requirements for infrastructure and product quality.
- Support and Training: Provide on-site technical advice and training for various agri-processing activities.
- Administration: Manage administrative tasks, lead human capital development, and represent the department at industry events and stakeholder meetings.

- Scientific Knowledge: Strong understanding of scientific methodologies, data analysis, and computer-aided scientific applications.
- Management: Proficiency in project management and policy analysis.
- Communication: Excellent technical report writing, presentation skills, and the ability to network with industry stakeholders.
