Role Purpose
As a Senior Auditor, you will lead complex audits to ensure businesses comply with tax laws. You will use your expertise to identify tax gaps, avoidance schemes, and evasion. Additionally, you will provide technical support to fellow auditors and suggest improvements to current tax legislation.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7).
- Experience: At least 6 years of experience in a corporate tax environment.
- Specific Skills: At least 4 years of experience in basic auditing, specifically focusing on Corporate Income Tax (CIT) and VAT.
Key Responsibilities
Audit and Analysis
- Plan and carry out advanced audits on complex business entities and groups.
- Analyze financial data to identify risks and understand the tax implications of complicated transactions.
- Extract and evaluate information from SARS systems and external sources to verify compliance.
- Use digital tools to audit modern financial risks, including eCommerce transactions.
Compliance and Legal
- Identify serious tax offenses and refer them for criminal investigation.
- Provide expert testimony in court for complex tax cases when required.
- Collaborate with legal teams to interpret tax laws and manage disputes.
- Ensure all assessments raised are accurate and aligned with current legislation.
Collaboration and Support
- Provide coaching and technical guidance to other auditors in the team.
- Work with the debt management department to ensure taxes are collected efficiently.
- Engage with taxpayers and tax practitioners to clarify information and resolve audit issues.
- Submit reports and findings to various technical committees for review.
Process Improvement
- Research new tax risks and suggest focus areas for future audits.
- Provide input on internal policies and help design better auditing procedures.
- Maintain high standards of integrity and ethics in all work activities.
